Antique Staffordshire Flatback – £80
Description
A charming and well painted Antique English Staffordshire Pottery Victorian ‘Faun in the Forest’ Spill vase dating from the mid 19th century.
Staffordshire spill vases with figures were a popular form of decorative pottery produced in England, mainly in the 19th century, especially during the Victorian era. These pieces served as both decorative mantelpiece ornaments and practical holders for spills (small rolled paper or wood strips used to transfer fire from hearths or candles). The vase portion often took the shape of a hollowed-out tree trunk.
There is some damage to the main branch but it has been well repaired and hardly visible from the front – I only noticed it when it was turned around.
