Antique Celery Vases – £55 – £85
Description
A lovely selection of antique celery vases etched with vines and leaves. There are six available on the site so do look at the other post.
Celery vases were popular in the Victorian era (1850’s – 1920’s and were designed to display and serve celery which was then an expensive, high-status delicacy. Typically 6–12 inches tall with a narrow, heavy-footed, and often top-heavy design, these vessels held celery stalks upright in water, serving as table centerpieces. Because cultivating celery was difficult and required specific conditions, it was treated as a luxury food. Displaying it in specialised, often expensive, glass vases allowed families to showcase their wealth. As manufacturing improved, pressed glass celery vases became affordable to the emerging middle class. They were frequently owned in pairs and were common wedding gifts.
