Handpainted Italian Pitcher – £55
Description
A gorgeous large hand painted ceramic pitcher in the classic Garofano design, made by the renown Italian potters in Faenza. Faenza is known as the City of the Ceramics and is in the north east part of Italy. History has it that Marco Polo brought the Garofano pattern from the Orient in 1279 (along with the pasta). The design was initially developed in the Italian region of Lombardia, but it later became the world-famous signature-pattern for the Majolica town of Faenza. The pitcher has a fabulous gold, blue and orange floral design and a very light grey background, made to replicate the colouring of the original antique pieces.
